Russia’s fundamental intelligence company has meddled in Britain’s politics and democratic processes via a “sustained” cyber marketing campaign since 2015, the UK authorities claimed on Thursday.

UK international minister Leo Docherty informed the Home of Commons that Russia’s Federal Safety Service had used a “vary of cyber espionage actions” to focus on MPs, friends, civil servants, journalists and NGOs.

The FSB had used stolen data obtained via cyber hacks to “meddle in British politics”, he warned, although he insisted the marketing campaign had been “unsuccessful”.

The Overseas Workplace mentioned it had sanctioned two people concerned within the group’s exercise and summoned the Russian ambassador to the UK, Andrey Kelin.

This text has been amended since unique publication. Andrey Kelin is Russia’s ambassador to the UK, not Alexander Yakovenko
