The importance of Earth observation data can no longer be ignored, and a new startup from Waterloo, Canada, is making it easy for everyone to gain access to it. The company, which recently raised $17.2 million in Series B funding, is working with satellite payload providers to lower the barriers to entry for new companies that want to make the data available to the public.

SkyWatch’s TerraStream Platform

With the TerraStream platform, the company aims to make Earth observation data more accessible to the world. Its technology has hundreds of applications that can be deployed directly from satellites. Moreover, it enables the use of satellite data by developers with just a few lines of code. The company has already signed up 40 satellite launchers to deploy TerraStream-enabled satellites, including SatRevolution, SpaceJLTZ, and Wyvern.

The TerraStream platform provides scalable storage, processing, and distribution for Earth observation data. It is also backed by an AWS Ground Station that enables customers to communicate with satellites and move data around the globe. TerraStream customers can schedule satellite contacts at AWS Ground Station locations and take advantage of AWS’s high-bandwidth and low-latency global network to distribute their data.

Its Ellipsis Drive API

SkyWatch’s Ellipsis Drive API has made spatial data easy to share and manage. It seamlessly integrates with existing software, allowing effective data use from day one. The Ellipsis Drive API makes purchasing and using Earth Observation data simple and accessible.

By enabling developers to integrate Earth observation data into their applications, SkyWatch has streamlined the complex process of integrating this data. This eliminates the need for multiple integrations and multi-point searches, and frees up development teams to focus on more actionable intelligence and business applications. SkyWatch’s Ellipsis Drive API also enables developers to create applications faster and more easily.

Its EarthCache(tm) API

Today, the global repository of Earth Observation (EO) data is rapidly growing, but the means to turn these datasets into value are relatively limited. To fill this gap, SkyWatch has created a cloud-based system called EarthCache, which makes remote sensing data readily available for developers. According to the company’s CEO, this system will enable developers to create new products based on EO data.

AgIntegrated is one of the companies aiming to connect to SkyWatch’s EarthCache(t) API. It already hosts multiple Ag-related APIs and aims to build a robust Data Exchange marketplace by connecting to aerial and drone providers and data analytics groups.

Its partnership with AgIntegrated

SkyWatch has partnered with AgIntegrated to make Earth Observation data more accessible to the agricultural community. Together, they will provide aerial and drone imagery to customers and offer data analytics. AgIntegrated will connect to SkyWatch’s EarthCache API through Field Data Exchange.

By partnering with AgIntegrated, SkyWatch makes Earth Observation data easily accessible to the world. The integration of Earth Observation data with existing software streamlines the development process and helps users utilize the data to their full potential. Its easy-to-use platform streamlines the purchase, management, and sharing of spatial data.

Its Mission To Make Earth Observation Data More Accessible

SkyWatch aims to make Earth observation data more accessible to the global community by developing technology that connects satellite operators with application developers. Its TerraStream platform provides data management, cataloging, and distribution services for satellite data. In addition, the company’s TerraCache service makes it simple to acquire satellite data for applications. AWS’s low-latency, high-bandwidth global network enables users to receive data quickly.

SkyWatch is part of an international satellite constellation operated by SatRevolution, a commercial satellite company in Poland. The company has two optical satellites, based on the UniBus 3U CubeSat platform. These satellites will collect multispectral medium-resolution imagery for agriculture and energy customers in the US and Poland.
