To conduct this study, Harvard Business Publishing Corporate Learning teamed up with independent research firm Stingray Research to survey 734 learning and development professionals and line of business practitioners. Respondents were from corporate organizations with at least 1,000 employees. Approximately 70 percent were from publicly traded companies while the rest were privately held organizations. The research included a survey of a diverse cross-section of practitioners across industries, with a balance between LOB practitioners and L&D professionals.
The results of the research show that L&D is critical to organizational success. Nearly two-thirds of respondents reported that their organizations’ L&D programs improved their line managers’ effectiveness, and that these improvements are making a difference.
